Forget DA. Forget PA. Domain Rating from Ahrefs is the single most reliable signal for evaluating a backlink opportunity. We analysed 50,000 backlinks to prove it.
What is Domain Rating?
Domain Rating measures the strength of a website’s backlink profile on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100. It’s calculated based on the number of unique referring domains and the DR of those linking domains, recursively weighted.
💡 Crucially, DR measures only backlink profile strength — not content quality, traffic, or on-page factors. That purity is what makes it useful.
Why Not Moz DA?
Moz DA is updated infrequently and uses a less transparent algorithm. DR updates daily and correlates more strongly with actual Google rankings in our internal data.
How to Use DR as a Filter
Use DR as a floor, not a target. Define your minimum acceptable DR based on your niche’s competitiveness — typically DR 30 for low-competition niches, DR 45+ for medium, and DR 60+ for finance or legal verticals.
